Can you think up an 'inner product' on a set like {1,2,3}? From the beginning and through the middle of the 18th century, differential geometry was studied from the extrinsic point of view: curves and surfaces were considered as lying in a Euclidean space of higher dimension (for example a surface in an ambient space of three dimensions). I'm a freshman Physics major and I plan on minoring in math, and there are several "tracks" I can go down to pursue this. This active research group runs three geometry/topology seminars, each of which has as a major component teaching graduate students.

The surface in this case is said to be Antielastic at the normal curvature with direction.
